Overview
Alberta Trappers' Association vision, mission, principles, and more.
|
Vision
We see an Alberta where the harvesting of wild furbearers is an ongoing, respected management activity that helps to ensure the continuation of this part of Alberta's heritage, culture, and identity.
|
Mission
As an association, we will promote the harvesting of wild furbearers in a humane and sustainable manner thereby benefitting the wild fur resource and all of Albertans.
|
Values & Principles
As one of the main stewards of the wild furbearers resource, we believe the following:
-
Animals should be treated with respect and compassion.
-
In respecting and following the laws and regulations that govern wild fur harvesting privileges in this province and in ethical behavior that goes beyond mere adherence to these laws.
-
Fur harvesting can be a useful and effective wildlife management tool in the maintenance of healthy and abundant wildlife populations in balance with the natural environment and society's acceptance of those populations and that we should protect fur-bearers by reacting to calamities.
-
In supporting efforts to protect endangered and threatened species.
-
In operating within the context of sustainable wildlife management where fur harvesting and the activities of fur harvesters contribute to the viability of wildlife populations.
-
In assisting all sectors of our society in responsible animal control measures where human and animal conflicts occur.
-
In making full, wise and careful use of the resource.
-
In cooperation and the creation of partnerships with all users of the resource.
-
In recognizing that trappers are accountable for their actions and responsible for their behavior.
-
That fur harvesting encompasses a wide variety of experiences that involve traditional, social, cultural, family and personal values with regard to our use of the land and our relationship with the natural environment.
