Upcoming Trapping Courses - Download Registration Below
The Alberta Trappers’ Association Trapper Education Program provides the Standard Trapping course, as well as numerous workshops and presentations to schools and other interested groups year round throughout the province.
Last year, the ATA put on 54 Standard Trapping Courses to 768 students. This season we are well on our way to matching that again. The interest in trapping has grown greatly in the past few years and with the elimination of the challenge test, the demand for courses has greatly increased.
The ATA is working hard to accommodate the needs of everyone who wishes to take the course and is currently in the process of training additional instructors to help meet this increased demand. If you are interested in taking a trapper course, contact the ATA head office and we will inform you of upcoming courses or put your name on a waiting list for your area.
The Standard Trapping course is your first step toward becoming a trapper. The course includes instruction on the safe use of traps and other equipment, biology of furbearers, animal management, marketing and grading of furs, skinning and fur handling, as well as humane trapping techniques.
The minimum age to take the course is 12, however, an adult in attendance must be assigned responsibility for any student under the age of 18.
The cost of the course is $399.00 and includes the Trapper Education Manual.
Courses Run Friday, Saturday and Sunday
